Useful information

By adding cretaceous additives in the products  the producer can achieve the following goals:

 

  • reduce the costs of the end product;
  • increase productivity;
  • Reduce wear and tear;
• gets new physical and mechanical characteristic of products.

 


Let's  consider each issue:


Cheaper products. Density of cretaceous additives  exceeds the density the basic raw material, and the addition of masterbatches produced in volume fractions, as the volume of the final product is constant, the mass of the product increases. However, even with continued growth in prices for polymers, the price of cretaceous additives  is much lower and their use is economically effective.
In addition, the calcium carbonate increases rigidity, and you can reduce the thickness of the wall and extrusion of tubes can be filled with 20-30 parts by weight of additives and ultimately reduce the cost by 15-25%, as pipes are shipped by tonnage.


Productivity increase. Increasing productivity is a very important advantage of using cretaceous additives . But there is a problem, when blowing a film by extrusion, the material temperature  is very high. Let's have two examples: 1) during the production of the film, if you overclock the line, the film will not have time to cool, there will be swing arm, and it will stick together, and 2)during the profile production, when straightening the line, the profile will not have time to cool and there will be deviations from sizes after the calibrator. The thermal conductivity of Calcium carbonate is much higher than the thermal conductivity of polymer, at the same speed of passage through the cooling system, the material that has the biggest amount of Calcium carbonate in it is more quickly cooled. Therefore, increasing number of input of cretaceous additives  avoids overheating after the cooling stage, as well as reduces costs.


Reduce wear and tear. There are two ways to extract calcium carbonate: by shredding the rocks and sediment (natural calcium carbonate) and by chemical deposition (chemically precipitated calcium carbonate).


The particles of natural fillers (even with a high degree of micronization), usually significantly larger than those of products obtained by precipitation.


A fine calcium carbonate may have a different form of particles, depending on the shape of the crystal and the way of shredding.


There are two shredding methods - dry and wet. Wet shredding and micronization give a more smooth and round particles, which is more preferable to dry shredding, as the smooth particles cause less equipment wear while using, cutting edges and capping. To obtain ground calcium carbonate to cretaceous additives it is exposed to micronization (by using jet mechanic and ultrasonic shredding). Thus, cretaceous additives significantly reduce wear and tear.

Getting the new physical and mechanical properties of the end-product. These include:


  • No shrinkage and warpage, the accuracy of the geometric parameters of the end-product;
  • The improvement of resilience;
  • Due to the high temperature cretaceous additives acts as a flame retardant, increasing the upper limit of the heat distortion temperature of items;
  • Improved stiffness and bending strength of different packaging and containers;
  • Provides resistance to cracking on the surface of products, reduces the fragility of the products in the mold;
  • Improving the tactile qualities of the surface of products;
  • Improved surface properties for printing products - good coverage and opacity;
  • Provides improved antiblocking and sleeves detection;
  • Reduces electrostatic effect and the requirements for coronary treatment;
  • Improved anti-rupture properties (especially films, strap);
  • Eliminates fibrillation (delamination) of polypropylene filaments;
  • Improving the mat surface, anti-reflective properties of the films;
• Facilitates recycling products reduces the combustion heat release, prolongs the usage time of furnaces;
